Hi folks,

Our first public meeting tommorow is in Dutch Quarter.

some way or the other we must take into account that Dutch Quarter (actually whole St. Maarten)
is in mourning after the senseless killing of Eric.
I dont know how we should do this. Maybe we should choose not to put the music to loud.
Maybe we should start with placing a wreath at
the supermarket before going to the public meeting. (but then again some people might say its only politics).
 Maybe we should ask Fannie
(or anyone else of the family) how they would feel about this.

Like I said….I dont know how but we have to take this tradegy into account.

I knew Eric and am still shook up by the happening.

Just a few days before he handed me 2 bottles of champaign so I can open my new year in style….

I agree that we must take this horrific occurrence into account. But please give us some direct indications of what exactly you would want to see: How do we make a public meeting more sober?
How do you propose we show solidarity (without making it political)? To make it shorter is easier, but will in the public’s mind this be correlated with Eric’s death?
How do we get this connection
across to the public? Should we cancel the District Band for this particular meeting? Do you think we should contact Fannie?

We need to put concrete actions in place, so we have no regrets afterwards.

An announced minute of silence. Immediate departure from the area after the meeting;
a card message to the Chinese community. A visit to the family by you and me.

PS there is nothing that we will say or do that if others want to attack will not be labeled as political by them.

I agree with the minute silence, the card message (who is the President of the Chinese Community?) and the visit to the family (when?).
I will go see Afoo’s brother here in Cole Bay at Daily Extra and get some of the information needed so I can get back to you. How about the DISTRICT Band? Do we maintain them for the Dutch Quarter meeting?
