On instructions of Party Leader Sarah Wescot-Williams, the Board of the Democratic Party of St. Maarten has today, January 13, 2010, opened a special account at the RBTT Bank on the Cannegieter Street. This in reaction to the tragedy that struck Haiti yesterday afternoon, when an earthquake registering 7.0 on the Richter Scale ravaged the Southern part of that already impoverished Caribbean nation. The RBTT account # 40332853, called "DP SXM HAITI RELIEF" was established to be the vehicle through which the members and supporters of the DP and others can be of some assistance to the Haiti earthquake victims and their families by making financial donations. All funds deposited to this special disaster relief fund, will be turned over to the Red Cross for further disbursement or other appropriate use to help alleviate the rescue/recovery efforts in Haiti. On behalf of Party Leader, Council-Lady Sarah Wescot-Williams, the DP Board encourages all to give freely to this worthy cause and we join the rest of the world in prayers for the people of Haiti who have over the many years of their country's existence endured the effects of more than their share of natural and man-made disasters. Michael J. Ferrier President DEMOCRATIC PARTY (SXM)
